President of Zimbabwe, H.E. Emmerson Mnangagwa, toured the Accra Compost and Recycling Plant (ACARP) on 2 April 2026 during his State visit to Ghana. He praised the facility as an example of how technology, innovation and local expertise can turn waste management into economic opportunities.

The visit highlighted the growing Ghana–Zimbabwe partnership in waste management, following an MOU between Zoomlion Ghana Limited and Geo Pomona Waste Management (Pvt) Ltd. of Zimbabwe. The partnership focuses on sharing technology, equipment and expertise to improve waste collection, recycling, processing and disposal, particularly in Zimbabwe.

During the tour, President Mnangagwa observed ACARP’s sorting lines, composting tunnels, control room and monitoring systems. The plant has the capacity to process up to 1,200 metric tonnes of municipal solid waste daily, recovering recyclable materials and converting organic waste into compost.

The Minister for Labour, Dr. Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, also praised the working conditions at the plant and noted the growing interest of young people in sanitation-related jobs.

The visit ended with a renewed commitment to strengthen cooperation in waste management, environmental sustainability, technology transfer and job creation, while promoting African solutions to African challenges.
